07th May 2013Children's Parade
Lancing College Prep took part in the Brighton Festival Children's Parade on Saturday 5th May
The morning's weather started out good, with a slight breeze and a few clouds. The children (and parents!) were in high spirits as they waited for the off. Our theme this year was 'Outer Space' and once again, Miss Roberts, Miss Draper and Mr Baines did the school proud with their constructions of a space rocket, planet earth and a space man. The children made some wonderful rockets and their costumes were great. Our Samba band, led by Miss Fenlon, was amazing and kept the children and crowds going with their beats. Unfortunately the weather turned once we hit North Street with the rain and wind picking up. The children, however, kept battling on through the elements and as we turned onto the seafront, Miss Draper was nearly blown over and the crowds has diminished slightly. The children were not swayed by the weather and kept going until the end. A massive thank you to all those involved!
04th May 2013Primary School Visit Science Lab
Year 3 from Goldstone Primary School in Hove visited Dr Cooper and the Lab as part of their Science Week.
The children enjoyed activities such as making lots of bubbles and seeing who could blow a bubble as big as their head! Another was making 'gloop' out of corn flour and coloured water. The children mixed it together and tried to roll it into a ball. The gloop was very strange as it acted as a solid if you rolled it and as a liquid if you let it go. At another pod, the children put together and decorated 'mice rockets' and launched them using empty plastic milk containers. At the final pod, the children made lava lamps using tall glass jars. They poured in oil and coloured water then added a fizzy vitamin tablet. This made lots of gas and bubbles that fizzed up and down the jar. Thank you to all our Year 8 pupils that volunteered to help.
27th Feb 2013Beekeeping Talk
Our Green Science club enjoyed a wonderfully informative talk on beekeeping.
The children studied a real (luckily empty!) hive and were given a fascinating presentation on bees and honey production.

To alot of cheer and encouragement, all of the pupils rose to the occasion, showing their individual dance performances in a variety of styles from classical ballet to modern jazz to hip-hop. Feedback for every performance was given to each competitor.

07th Sep 2012Team Building at Blacklands Farm
Year 7 spent Thursday 6th September at Blacklands Farm where they enjoyed climbing, team-building and archery in order to develop skills of teamwork, initiative and perseverance.
Mary and Ella won the crate challenge, managing to stand on a tower 13 crates high before crashing to the ground. What was especially impressive was the way in which, on the climbing wall in particular, pupils were able to face their fears and work through them with the support of friends old and new. These experiences were designed to help the children in overcoming the challenges that will face them as senior pupils in the prep school.

On this magnificent site, pupils were able to explore over two thousand years of history, from the Roman lighthouse overlooking the English Channel to the underground tunnels which played an important part in Britain’s defences during the Second World War.
For many, the highlight of the trip was the majestic keep built for Henry II, in which pupils were able to experience life as it would have been in the twelfth century.

The Woods Mill staff were very informative, and read the children stories in the Willow igloo. Pond dipping followed where fish and newts were discovered, then the children sat quietly bird watching. Nature cards were given out and the children collected items from around the Woods Mill site, which paved the way for a treasure hunt with magnifying glasses. This was an excellent, revealing trip for the Nursery children who really enjoyed their day.

The bandstand provided a great opportunity for the pupils to share their great talent with the wider public.

25th Jan 2012New Community Care Club
As part of the Wednesday afternoon activities, a new club has been arranged for Years 6 to 8 to visit Victoria Oaklands Care Home
The children are given time to talk with the elderly residents of the care home and to discuss experiences that they have had. Last week the pupils chatted about their Christmas and the residents were able to give their own accounts and views.
During the next visit, the children will be helping out with the residents Tea Dance, with future visits including 'comparison between and past and present', 'sharing favourite books' and the pupils will be showing pieces of their own work.
The club is a great opportunity for the pupils and we hope that it continues to be a success.

11th Nov 2011Remembrance Day 2011
All week, pupils have been learning about Remembrance Day, in particular about old boys of the school who gave their lives in the two World Wars.
On Friday 11th November 2011, all pupils from Nursery to Year 8 held a two minute silence at 11 o'clock whilst Head Boy, Stephen Laurent, played The Last Post and The Reveille. Guy Bryman placed a poppy wreath on the war memorial whilst the school listened to the famous words of the Remembrance Prayer.
We believe that it is a very important thing for today's generation to be made aware of the sacrifices of previous generations. We hope that they will never forget the debt we owe to the brave men and women of our recent past.
