Year 3 Visit to Hindu Temple
As part of their RS project for this half term Year 3 enjoyed a trip to the local Hindu temple.

Gladiator Visits Lancing Prep!
Gladiator Spartan visited Lancing Prep this week to give an assembly to the children
Gladiator Visits Lancing Prep!
Invited as a partner in sport clothing manufacturer www.playerlayer.com, the 6 foot 3 Gladiator combines his clothing business with TV work and is also the captain of the Great Britain American Football team.  He spoke to the pupils about his own experience of school life and how his interest in sport had helped him achieve success.  Individual questions from a very keen audience were answered, followed by posing for pictures with his signature pose!

Local Author Visit
The two authors of 'The Edge Chronical' series visited Lancing Prep this week.
Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell visited the prep school following their latest publication in 'The Edge Chronicals' series 'The Immortals'.  The children had a chance to chat with the authors, watch their brilliant illustration skills and obtained a signed publication of the new book.

Children in Need Total Smashed!
This year, Lancing Prep raised a total of £568.35 which topped all previous collections.
Children in Need Total Smashed!
The pre prep children dressed in 'spots and stripes' and prep school children dressed to their 'set colours'.  A cake stall was set up and run by year 7 & 8 pupils which on their own raised a total of £237.69.  A great day was had by all and congratulations to the children for breaking all Lancing Prep records!

French Trip 2009
A record number of excited pupils left Lancing Prep for the Chateau de la Baudonniere.
French Trip 2009
Mr Smith, Mrs Fonfe, Miss Fenlon and Marie Balcon took 33 prep school children for their annual visit to France.  All meals and activities were in French and the surroundings were idyllic, deep in the French countryside.  Activities during the day included aero ball, circus skills, archery, French lessons and the amazing assault course!  Visits included the market at Vire, Mt St Michel and the regulation visit to the hypermarket.

Pupils and staff are delighted with the new 'state of the art' science laboratory.  The lab will allow pupils as young as 7 years old to experience science in a very practical way.

First competitive opportunity for U11 tennis team results in win.
Lancing College Prep Takes Tennis Title!
This Summer term our U11 tennis team took part in the Prep School's tournament held at Lancing College.  8 teams of 6 players competed from different schools.  For many children it was their first opportunity to play matches on grass courts and they thoroughly enjoyed it.  The weather was perfect and the spectators watched some brilliant sportsmanship from everyone who took part.

Lancing Prep Ski Trip 2009

29 children took part in this great trip to Claviere, Italy during the first week of the Easter break.  The pupils received 4 hours of ski tuition each day, returning to their hotel for meals and a full range of apres ski activities.  The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and are already asking when the next trip is being planned for!

Lancing Prep Pupils Take Maths Title!
Prep School's Maths Challenge competition
Two of our year 8 boys joined forces with two year 9 boys from Lancing College to compete in the UK Mathematics Trust 'Team Maths Challenge 2009' for our region.  In all, fifteen Sussex schools took part in a day of challenging team games which culminated in a very long maths relay.  The Lancing Prep/College team finished in first place by quite  large margin.  The boys are now looking forward to taking part in the UK finals in July!

Hockey Coaching
Professional hockey coach trains Lancing Prep pupils for their first ever hockey match!
Hockey Coaching
Children in years 7 & 8 are currently receiving hockey coaching by current Havant and Welsh national hockey player, Chris Bowen.  The children are finding the sessions extremely enjoyable and the coaching has helped them through their first ever hockey fixture!

Accelerated Learning
Upper school pupils attend our first Science Accelerated Learning morning
Accelerated Learning

Lancing Prep's first accelerated learning morning focused on Science.   Dr Wendy Swarbrick from Lancing College, assisted by Dr Cooper and the Head Master, presented various investigations to the children using sweets!  The pupils looked at the hardness of various sweets by completing their own experiments, followed by Dr Swarbrick demonstrating chemical reactions by making toffee and cinder toffee.

Trip to Battle Ground
Year 6 visit to the site of the Battle of Hastings proved an interesting and exhausting day!
Trip to Battle Ground
As part of their history project for this term, year 6 visited the site of the Battle of Hastings.  After being challenged to run up the same slope that the Normans would have attacked - without wearing the armour and carrying the weapons - they all had a greater understanding of what it must have been like on the 14th October 1066.  There was a 'trying on' session of various armour and clothing, followed by a look around the Abbey.

Lancing College Prep Support NSPCC
All children completed the sponsored NSPCC Maths Challenge raising a record amount of money!
Following a recent assembly by a representative from the NSPCC, all children from Nursery through to Year 8 completed a Maths Challenge.  The children received sponsorship from friends and family and Lancing College Prep raised a record total of £1545.00 - the most amount of money raised for a single charity.

New School Pond!
A huge thank you to our Parents Association for sponsoring our new science pond
New School Pond!
The new wildlife pond is an excellent resource for the school, which can be used in a wide variety of lessons from Science to Geography, Art and English.  The younger children will be able to observe the variety of mini beasts for their topic projects in the Summer term.  The Parents Association raised the money over the past year by holding their annual Christmas party, wine tasting evening, quiz night and summer fete.

Sussex Cricketer Comes to Lancing Prep
Development coaches from the Country Cricket ground offered their skills to Lancing Prep pupils for a morning of cricket fun.  The coaching included a cricket skills session, hand hockey, diamond cricket and bowling techniques.  This was a great opportunity for the children to learn different approaches to cricket and even managed to get their bats signed by Murray.

Adventure Day for years 5, 6 & 7!
End of Term Trip to World Challenge Adventure Quest
Adventure Day for years 5, 6 & 7!
The children in years 5, 6 and 7 were taken to the World Challenge Adventure Quest site as an end of term treat.  The pupils were placed in groups and were set various tasks from bridge building to an assault course!  Team building was the focus of the day and it was a great way to finish the term.

Science Challenge at Lancing College

Dr Cooper took year 6 to Lancing College to participate in their Science Challenge.   Our pupils were competing against 11 other schools with challenges in physics, chemistry and biology.

Teams first had to build both a tower and a boat out of paper that would support a large weight.  In the biology section, there were a selection of challenges from putting a skeleton together, to building a nest from twigs.  Finally the chemistry, where the pupils added chemicals together to make the solution as cold as possible.

Lancing College Prep finished second in the challenge, being only one point behind the winners!

Visit to British Museum
Years 5 and 6 attend Latin Day
Visit to British Museum
The British Museum in London held a special Latin Day, where pupils were given the opportunity to meet Barbara Bell, the author of their class Latin book 'Minimus'.  The children enjoyed an IT session with the illustrator, Dr Helen Forte, who has created many memorable characters.  There was also the opportunity to learn about life as a Roman soldier, and to study artefacts from the site of Vindolanda which form the basis for the stories in 'Minimus'.
