Years 5 and 6 attend Latin Day
The British Museum in London held a special Latin Day, where pupils were given the opportunity to meet Barbara Bell, the author of their class Latin book 'Minimus'. The children enjoyed an IT session with the illustrator, Dr Helen Forte, who has created many memorable characters. There was also the opportunity to learn about life as a Roman soldier, and to study artefacts from the site of Vindolanda which form the basis for the stories in 'Minimus'.

Congratulations to one of our year 6 pupils who has been chosen to represent England. Another pupil from year 4 has recently made his debut for Sussex. A great achievement for both!

Our pre prep children have fun at Lancing College Farm
The first part of the Summer term sees our pre prep children visiting the farm at Lancing College. Under the expert supervision of Derek Cleaver, Farm Manager, the children learnt about the animals and even got 'hands on' with the lambs, rabbits and goats. These excellent links with the Senior School continue as the upper school children also have a chance to visit the farm throughout the year.

As part of our travel plan, our children have been offered free cycle training
Following the initiation of our recent travel plan, Brighton and Hove City Council have offered our year 5 and 6 pupils a chance to take their stage one and stage two of the cycle training tests. All children managed to pass stage one, and thoroughly enjoyed the training. Our thanks must go to the Council who have offered us this great opportunity. Our children start stage two in a few weeks.

'Days Of Wonder' Visited Lancing Prep
Days of Wonder visited the school with their mobile planetarium. Every class was treated to a show, from meeting Sam the Astronaut to being given a tour of the solar system and beyond.
17th Mar 2008Lancing Prep Carry Out a National Experiment
As part of National Science and Engineering Week, Lancing Prep took part in a major piece of educational research which included 170,000 other pupils.
During National Science and Engineering Week, each child in the prep school - led by Dr Cooper - took part in a National experiment. Conducted entirely on-line, each child completed a short survey on their diet, exercise and rest, together with a series of on-line activities which challenged the children's powers of memory and concentration. The pupils then received their results and tips on how to improve their own readiness to learn. Teachers TV Will be publishing a full report on the National findings later in the year.

Lancing College Prep celebrate Up for Reading Week and World Book Day
The children have been involved with various projects and activities throughout the week from poetry being read out in assembly to book tokens being given out to every child in the school. This week came to a grand finale with each pupil and staff member dressing up as their favourite book character. The school raised a total of £547.00 which went towards The Down Syndrome Educational Trust

As part of their mask making project this term, year 8 enjoyed a day out in London
Miss Roberts and Dr Cooper took the children to visit the Horniman Museum in London to give them inspiration for their mask making project. The museum holds a large collection of interesting masks from around the world.

Following last year's Blue Moon Ball, and other events held by Lancing Prep Parents Association, we are now proud owners of a new outdoor classroom. The structure has been built near to the adventure playground and will be a vital asset to our children during the Summer months.

Lancing Prep Attend Singing Day
Our year 6 pupils visited Brighton College with Mr Farley to participate in the choral day for prep school pupils. The children learnt several new songs over the course of the day, together wtih learning new arrangements of familiar songs such as 'Dem Bones' and 'I wanna be like you' being the favourites. It was an excellent opportunity to sing in parts, and to sing as part of a large ensemble.

Schools Concert at Symphony Hall
Our Senior Choir were some of the children attending the 'Woodard School's' concert held at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham. The children sang to an audience of approximately 1000, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. In addition to the choir, one of our year 8 pupils played with the orchestra.

Lancing Prep Once Again Support Jeans for Genes
Each year we participate in the Jeans for Genes charity day. The children are invited to wear jeans to school and donate to this worthwhile charity. This year we raised a total of £268.80, which topped last year's total by £70.00.

Year 8 Common Entrance candidates attended a field trip run by Lancing College's Head of Geography
Mr Foster led the pupils on an interesting day, looking at the River Ladywell (which starts in the grounds of Lancing College). They also looked at the River Adur, measuring the meander and getting very muddy in the process! During the day the children were lucky enough to attend the Halloween concert by the 'Ladywell Group', a modern music group at Lancing College, who gave a special spooky performance, lit by candles, in the Crypt of the Chapel.

This term 27 pupils from years 6, 7 and 8 enjoyed a 5 day stay in France
The children and staff stayed at Chateau de la Baudonniere in Normandy where they participated in lots of different activities including fencing, canoeing, and assault course, a treasure hunt, French talent show and a visit to the famous Mont St Michel. Mrs Misra, Dr Cooper, Miss Weller and the children are looking forward to a return visit!

'Days of Wonder' visited the school with 13 robots and laptops
Years 3 to 6 enjoyed the experience which comprised of laptop computers which directed the robots. The children were able to program and experiment with the robotics.

Brighton and Hove City Council's Walk To School Month Launches at Lancing Prep
The month long campaign run by the Council encourages parents and children to walk or cycle rather than take the car to school. The Mayor of Brighton and Hove visited, together with three of her colleagues from the Council. Bigfoot Bear, the Walk to School mascot, welcomed the children at the gate and joined the school assembly. The children and staff then gathered for a photo shoot.

Lancing Prep Students represent Sussex
Three of our children were chosen to represent Sussex for the National Coaches Day at the new LTA Tennis Centre in Roehampton. The children really enjoyed the experience, and with a little help from their coach Keith Pullen, managed to show off their skills to the UK's top tennis coaches.
10th Jul 2007Joseph Performance goes down a storm!
Following 5 performances of Joseph at Lancing College's theatre, our children received a standing ovation on the last night to confirm what a wonderful show they put on.
With the help of Mrs Jacquie Brunjes, Mr Farley and our main school children completed 5 magnificent performances of Joseph & The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. A great way to end the Summer Term, all children enjoyed the experience, and received a standing ovation on the final evening. Well done to all those involved.

Thanks to the Parents Association for funding the school's new playground which opened on 7th June
Many, many thanks to the parents association for funding our new adventure playground. This replaces the previous pre prep play equipment, and is suitable for the use of children from ages 3 to 13.

The first ever Lancing College Prep netball match has taken place.
Lancing Prep now has a girls netball team, for the first time since our school went co-educational 4 years ago. The girls played a very good game against a very competent team from St Christopher's. Lancing Prep just beat the competition 3-2.
