25th Jan 2012New Community Care Club
As part of the Wednesday afternoon activities, a new club has been arranged for Years 6 to 8 to visit Victoria Oaklands Care Home
The children are given time to talk with the elderly residents of the care home and to discuss experiences that they have had. Last week the pupils chatted about their Christmas and the residents were able to give their own accounts and views.
During the next visit, the children will be helping out with the residents Tea Dance, with future visits including 'comparison between and past and present', 'sharing favourite books' and the pupils will be showing pieces of their own work.
The club is a great opportunity for the pupils and we hope that it continues to be a success.

11th Nov 2011Remembrance Day 2011
All week, pupils have been learning about Remembrance Day, in particular about old boys of the school who gave their lives in the two World Wars.
On Friday 11th November 2011, all pupils from Nursery to Year 8 held a two minute silence at 11 o'clock whilst Head Boy, Stephen Laurent, played The Last Post and The Reveille. Guy Bryman placed a poppy wreath on the war memorial whilst the school listened to the famous words of the Remembrance Prayer.
We believe that it is a very important thing for today's generation to be made aware of the sacrifices of previous generations. We hope that they will never forget the debt we owe to the brave men and women of our recent past.

22nd Sep 2011New Synthetic Phonics Scheme
We have introduced a whole school phonics scheme to support and enhance the pupils' learning in reading, writing and spelling
By having this whole school approach, we are able to offer pupils a smooth and steady progression throughout the school, with the aim being to help each child to become the strongest readers and writers they can be.
Where the younger children will benefit from learning their sounds and developing into strong readers and writers, the older pupils will gain from this scheme through revision and reinforcement of prior learning. Older pupils may find some of the learning activities a surprise, but with accurate spelling and grammar increasingly at a premium, we feel that rigour in this area is to be welcomed. The workk they do will support their ability to access texts, an important and vital skill for all of their exams.
This scheme is an exciting progression within the teaching of English at Lancing College Preparatory School.
22nd Sep 2011Cross Curricular Investigation
As a cross curricular investigation for Science and Religious Studies, Dr Giles Preston, Head of Science at Lancing College, visited our Year 8 pupils to discuss creation.

The morning was very enriching and has given the pupils a greater insight into the Scientific evidence of creation. The information discussed will be used by pupils in Science and Religious Studies and will be a vital source when writing their exams.

Our performers were fantastic with their singing, trumpet and oboe and the children did incredibly well. We are particularly proud of our Year 7 trumpeter who was the only brass player in his age group to reach the finals and was runner-up. Mr Farley was delighted.
